I like to think of Guy’s wines as “naturist”. This is not me forgetting my French, but rather sticking to the sense I get of sheer nudity when I taste his wines. They are full of character (like their maker) and taste positively salubrious. These are wines not just for your mouth, but also for your mind and entire body!
Guy was among the well-respected “Gang of Four” of the Beaujolais in the 1980’s. Like Georges Descombes, his wines show a strong, capable hand, yet the wines achieve a fine-ness and freshness of purity. Morgon is his pride and joy, but his Beaujolais- Villages “Marylou” will delight the drinker tired of monotone mass-produced wine.
